Henrik von Coler

Henrik von Coler is a musician and researcher, focusing on electronic music, spatial audio, and human computer interaction. After graduating with a degree in electrical engineering in Hamburg, Germany, he pursued a master’s and doctorate in electronic music, acoustics and computer science at TU Berlin’s Audio Communication Group. From 2015 to 2023, he was director of the Electronic Music Studio at TU Berlin and focused mainly on the composition and performance of spatial music. He has since performed on many well-known spatial audio systems worldwide and founded the Electronic Orchestra Charlottenburg (EOC) to explore live electronic performances on immersive loudspeaker systems. His own compositions and performances combine simple electronic sound generation with state-of-the-art digital systems to create dense spatial timbres and textures.
In 2024, Henrik founded the Lab for Interaction and Immersion (L42i) at Georgia Tech. Dedicated to research and creative practice in immersive and intercreative systems, the lab aims to create novel experiences and instruments for musicians and audiences. By combining the development and use of emerging technologies with empirical methods and composition/performance, the group gains insight into how humans interact with technology – and each other – in creative scenarios.
