Spatial Audio I is dedicated to immersive interactive installations: We will work on a series of installations that will be shown in a 1-month residency at Underground Atlanta. In groups, students will create their own audiovisual experience that will be shown at public events during the residency.
Topics include:
- Planning and installation of spatial sound systems
- Control of audiovisual content with MediaPipe
- Higher Order Ambisonics with Reaper/IEM
- Control data mapping with Python and Pure Data
- Preparation and management of public installations
This interdisciplinary course is part of a two-semester focused curriculum on spatial music and media art, funded through the 2025-2026 Provost Teaching and Learning Initiative. Combined with Spatial Audio I, students get an in depth introduction to the topic. Spatial Audio I - focusing on interactive immersive installations - is not a requirement for this class.
